Christmas Fun

Well, it's been a while! Just before Christmas we got a pretty good snow storm, about 8"! The kids were excited and wanted to get bundled up in the snow suits so after Church I bundled them up and went over to DeSales University. They have a pretty big hill and I'd seen people sledding there before but never gone myself. It was PACKED with people when we got there and Autumn saw some friends from school, which was good because she wouldn't have went down the hill if she hadn't seen one of her friends do it!! She did really well until she got spun around and took a pretty good tumble...."yardsaling" her hat and gloves across the hill and then the crying began. I was proud of her though, she toughen up and got right back out there. Joshua and I had a blast, he was riding down with me giggling all the way! Then I would take him half way up and let him go down by himself, HE LOVED IT!! So, fun was had by all...and it wasn't even Christmas yet!
Christmas was great. Christmas Eve was busy, brunch at my Dad's, church at 4:00, dinner at my moms....then a great Christmas morning at home with the kids and Robbie and dinner at Carolyns. Autumn said "it was the best Christmas ever" because "Santa brought everything she wanted"!! Joshua was happy with all of his new trucks, tractors, cars and books. Last night we had a blast playing with the tractors with some corn in the living room....just like I used to do when I was little! I even pulled out one of my old backhoe's for him to play with....he say's it's his backhoe now!
Hope everyone has a great New Year!

Light in the darkness

As we approach the shortest day of the year, the majority of our working days are spent in the darkness. We had some relatively warm weather earlier this week (low 40's) and I snuck out for two night rides on my cyclocross bike. There's something unique about riding at night in the Christmas season. The traffic is much less than the morning rides and the lights are on inside the houses as well as the Christmas lights outside. It gives you a much different perspective on the houses that you've ridden, run, or driven by countless times. A unique light in the darkness....and speaking of unique light and darkness, I was out for an early, brisk run the other morning and was treated to an awesome shooting star! Although I love the warm weather, we are blessed to have the seasons we have around here.

I also added a video that Johan took at the last cyclocross of the year in Marysville, PA on 12/5/09. This course was one of the best of the year and this shows the start and the first few off camber turns.

Hope everyone is having a great Holiday season!

Lots going on.......

Yesterday my brother and his wife welcomed their third child into the world, Daniel Joseph Garges at 11:45am! Congratulations! Mom and baby are doing well and his older sisters adore him. We went to the hospital last night and Autumn and Joshua were excited to meet him and hold him. Poor guy is going to have a lot of "help" poking at him at Christmas!

Then we got home to news that Carolyn and Mike welcomed Tessa, a 9 month old foster child into their home. I don't have pictures on this computer, but she's a cutie....curly dark hair! Brooke is just loving having a little sister to "show the ropes" to!

We had our first snowfall of the year last Saturday. The kids were itching to get outside so we bundled them up and headed out. Joshua had so much fun sledding down our little mound in the back, all by himself... By the time he was half way down all I could hear was "do it again, do it again"!! Then we built a snowman, first one I can remember! It was nice to come in and warm up next to the fire.

Last weekend was the last cyclocross race of the year. We got my race in just as the snow was starting, but it did get nasty out there for the later races. The fields were relatively small, the course was awesome and we had a blast. There were a lot of off camber turns, a cool pavement section, a steep dirt run up and a set of concrete steps that we had to run up. We even went through a pavillion! I got a great start and won the Cat 4 race, up to Cat 3 now! I also ended up winning the PA Cyclocross Series in Cat 4! I can't believe I have to wait until late Sept. 2010 to race again. Time to get training for Tampa and Boston, hope I remember how to run!

Phelps School CX Cat 4 Race 2009

Phelps School CX Cat 4 Race 2009

The Christmas Season is Here!

We had a great Thanksgiving weekend. Thanksgiving was nice and low key, the kids enjoyed playing Wii with Uncle Robbie and we had a nice quiet dinner (which was very tasty, thank you honey!). I was off on Friday, Lauren worked half a day so we could go to get our tree...low and behold the tree farm was CLOSED! So Friday night we headed down to my dad's to see Cody and Ace. We had a good time, kids loved playing with Hope and Adi (and Pops). I had two races this weekend, the PA State Cyclocross Championships right down the road in Allentown and the Phelps School Cycylocross about an hour away near Villanova University. Two great races (video link to follow). Sunday after I got home we went to get the tree (yup, we made sure they were open before we left!). Here's a picture of the annual pilgrimage...but warmer than usual. If I had a nickel for every time Autumn asked if we found the right tree yet, she could get through her first year of college! But we had fun, that's all that matters.
Then we got the lights on and started decorating...serious business for Joshua!
Was nice to see Aunt Nan and Uncle Tom at Carolyns for dinner (chef Mike whipped up som very tasty vegetable lasagna).
Here's the video from Sunday's race. I'm in the front row, far left in the white kit. This was an extremely wide open and fast course. Conditions were perfect, probably high 30's to low 40's.
